🔹Interesting Tech Fact:
Long before modern firewalls and intrusion detection systems, the U.S. Department of Defense created one of the first automated cyber defense experiments called the “Security Monitoring and Surveillance System” (SMSS). It ran on ARPANET — the precursor to the modern internet — and could detect unusual patterns in network activity by comparing them to a “baseline of normal” behavior, a primitive version of today’s AI-driven anomaly detection. What makes it extraordinary is that SMSS was coded in LISP, an early AI language, making it one of the first attempts to use artificial intelligence concepts for cybersecurity decades before machine learning became mainstream.
