Interesting Tech Fact:
In the early 1970s, before the internet as we know it existed, researchers at ARPANET—the experimental network that laid the foundation for today’s web—discovered the first recorded cybersecurity breach when a user named Ray Tomlinson, who is also credited with inventing email, noticed that system accounts were being accessed without authorization. To counter this, scientists implemented what is considered the world’s first form of password protection, though the passwords were stored in plain text and quickly exploited. This little-known episode not only marked the birth of both email and hacking, but also highlighted how even the earliest networks required safeguards, setting the stage for decades of innovation in cybersecurity protection.
